Alnmouth Golf Club Junior Section Captain 2009 - Mat Robson
Alnmouth Golf Club is proud of its junior section and its achievement in attaining the English Golf Union national Golfmark award (www.englishgolfunion.org/juniorgolf) in recognition of its work in providing a junior friendly golf facility. In attaining this award Alnmouth Golf club has been assessed in three key areas, coaching and playing, club environment, equality, child protection and a duty of care. This gives parents the confidence to choose Alnmouth Golf Club as the place for their children to take up the game of golf.
We have a very active junior section with around 120 members possibly the largest in Northumberland, proof of the enjoyment we give to our juniors throughout the summer. We offer a wide range of free competitions and coaching sessions for all age groups throughout the school holidays as part of the annual subscription. These are designed to introduce our young players to the many aspects of the game of golf. We operate a more relaxed dress code for our 'somewhat younger' juniors as a friendly introduction to the club and the junior section has its own club rules.
As our juniors progress they can attain a nationally recognised handicap and become eligible to play in most club competitions and are indeed encouraged to do so. The Club operates a team in the North Northumberland Junior League, the goal of our older juniors. We also encourage our juniors to compete in the county, Northumberland Junior Golf Association (www.njga.org.uk) events throughout the summer.
The school holiday coaching sessions are run on a fun basis in accordance with the Golf Foundation Passport Scheme (www.golf-foundation.org), which is a national scheme designed to standardise early coaching and introduce rewards when specific golfing ability targets have been met. The coaching is carried out by our resident lady golf professional, Linzi Hardy assisted by an enthusiastic band of club volunteers. Juniors are registered on the day in the entrance to the club and provided with a soft drink and Mars bar (please note all children under age 7 must be accompanied by a guardian). The coaching days usually comprises of three units: coaching, playing either the course or tri-golf and a putting competition. Children are assessed and allocated groups and their session times are published on the Junior Notice board in advance.
If you would like your child to become part of our junior section please contact the Secretary for an application form.
